How it works

We divide fixed costs and pay by the share of revenue left after variable costs. Then we divide by the opening days and the average sale. The number of sales is rounded up to the next whole number.

A real example

With €8,000 to cover and variable costs at 60%, you need €20,000 a month. Over 25 days, with an average sale of €20, that is 40 sales a day.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it for a bar or a restaurant?

Yes. Use the average sale or the average revenue per cover, and the relevant costs. If you sell products with different margins, enter a weighted average of variable costs.

Does breaking even mean making money?

Breaking even covers the costs and the pay you entered. To make a profit on top you need to go above that threshold.
