How to sell a digital business
An e-commerce store, subscription software, a website or an app is sold like any other business: the buyer pays for income that carries on after you leave. The difference is that almost everything can be measured: sales, visits, customers, subscribers. The clearer and easier to check the figures are, the faster the negotiation.
What buyers look at
First of all, revenue and profit for the last 12-24 months, month by month. Then where the customers come from: a site that lives on visits from Google is worth more than one that depends only on paid advertising. For software and apps, what counts is active subscribers and how many cancel each month; for a social channel or a newsletter, the audience and how much it earns.
How much work it takes also counts: a business that runs on a few hours a week appeals to more people.
What a digital business is worth
The price is usually a multiple of one year's profit: lower for small sites that depend on a single source of visits, higher for software with recurring revenue and few lost customers. For an e-commerce store, the inventory is added at cost.

The company or just the site, and the handover
You can sell the shares of the company that owns the business, or just the assets: domain, code, brand, content, subscriber lists and customers. Taxes and paperwork differ: decide with your accountant.
After signing, you hand over the domain, hosting, code, platform accounts, suppliers and logins. Prepare a list of everything needed to run the business beforehand: the negotiation is simpler and the buyer feels more at ease.
